This week I’ve contacted a number of people who give me reason to hope!
Thank goodness for them:
Molly Scott Cato, Green MEP for the South West. She has accused government of ‘fiddling while the planet burns’ and says that the issue of climate change will be at the core of all Green policy in the next European Parliament. Of course I asked her for her ideas about our next prime minister’s attitudes and if/when we leave Brexit, will we be relying on the Dutch and Spanish Green movements….?
George Monbiot – I wrote via his website and he warned that he doesn’t get back to all emails…He’s written some inspiring stuff that’s worth reading, anyway, including about how the school students’ campaign can be helped to succeed where other idealistic, commendable movements have failed..
Dale Vince – CE of Ecotricity and Forest Green Rovers. He’s been made ‘Climate Champion’ for the United Nations, in its Sports for Climate Action initiative that aims to bring sporting bodies & clubs around the world together with their supporters to fight climate change. He’s a ‘local hero’ of mine, remembered from my days at the Gloucestershire Gazette!
Joseph Stiglitz – an excellent article (Guardian, June 5th) about the Green New Deal.. the way to go, definitely…
Fintan Slye – the National Grid’s director who reported the positive news that recently the UK’s electricity (for a week?..) was generated without coal: ‘the new normal’ he described it as. His online ‘biography’ says he’s ‘passionate about decarbonisation’.
So, anyway, I’ll let you know if I get any new leads/suggestions. I’m also keeping in touch with Bristol Airport and Sainsbury’s….
